Epiphone casino vs gretsch 5420

I'm thinking Gretsch is the way to go- so classic. It's $200 more, and the pickups are quite different, although I have seen some YouTube videos coaxing nice rockabilly and jazz tones out of them. I'm also impressed with the Guild Newark Street line- such as the X-175 B Manhattan. I want a Bigsby since I use vibrato a lot, whether playing spaghetti western style stuff or surf-y stuff, etc. (Though others claim they must be replaced.) Obviously pickups are very much a matter of personal taste, but I'm hoping to just stick with stock pickups. Seems like the new pickups are getting good reviews, but I also hear some who prefer the stock Gretsch Filtertrons in the similar 5120 model. So I have been thinking about getting something like the Gretsch G5420T in classic orange. In gigging situations it was too prone to feedback so I sold it.īut I have been getting into jazzier stuff lately, and also love rockabilly, jump blues, etc. The Dot was actually more useful on stage and had a nice woody tone, but I preferred using my Tele for gigs so eventually sold it. I had an Epiphone Dot and at another time an Epiphone Emperor. All my current electrics are solid bodies.
